BC Parks should be put in charge of province’s trails (The Daily Courier)
Opinion – The provincial direction should be clear: give Recreation Sites and Trails B.C., an independent mandate; more funding for trail improvement and maintenance; separation of non-motorized and motorized trail usage; enforcement of the separation; maps and world-wide promotion for a world-class trail system; and real consultation with stakeholders and the public.

Algonquin Provincial Park has some of the best winter camping and snowshoe trails in North America with over 2,000 lakes, 805 km of rivers and streams. Start your snowshoeing adventure at Algonquin Provincial Park on the Hemlock Bluff Trail (3.5 km loop), Bat Lake Trail (5.8 km loop) or Mizzy Lake Trail (10.8 km). For the more experienced snowshoer, try the Minnesing Wilderness Ski Trail, an ungroomed trail with 4 different loop options ranging from 6 to 32 km. If you are into backpacking overnightm try the Western Uplands Backpacking Trail or the Highland Backpacking Trail with loops of 19 to 88 km
There are a wide variety of activities to do in the winter in British Columbia ranging from bird watching to skiing and snowshoeing.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, announced that 14 wood bison from Elk Island National Park will be translocated to the Woodland Cree First Nation in Alberta to establish a new herd. By transferring bison to establish conservation herds across North America, the Government of Canada is contributing to the restoration and long-term survival of wood bison.
Student ranger program looking for new recruits for 2020 season (The Ashcroft-Cache Creek Journal)
The BC Parks Student Ranger Program is now in it’s third year. Young adults who would like to work outdoors can apply for the program. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 23, 2020. The program provides 48 young adults with training and employment opportunities in B.C.’s parks and protected areas.
